A 60-meter pool — the deepest in the world — is open to the public in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The pool, with a depth of 196 feet, 10 inches, is the deepest swimming pool for diving, according to Guinness World Records.
Opened on July 27, “the Pearl Diving Pool is a facility of approximately 5,000m2 gross floor area constructed for His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. It will primarily be an indoor scuba diving facility for training and recreational purposes, with facilities for education, training and recreation,” Guinness World Records states.
Deep Dive Dubai, which opened on July 7, “is filled with 14 million liters of freshwater, the equivalent of six Olympic-sized swimming pools. Water is kept at 30 degrees [Celsius] to create the perfect conditions for diving — and there’s no need to wear thick wetsuits,” its website states.
“Water is circulated through filters every six hours to maintain the highest standards of safety and hygiene. There is also a fully-staffed, 12-person hyperbaric facility, the largest and most advanced in the region, to treat divers in the unlikely event of an accident,” the website says.
The pool has 56 cameras to help ensure divers’ safety, and “state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems create a variety of underwater moods,” the Deep Dive Dubai site states. Visitors can pay to scuba dive, snorkel, freedive or take a diving course in the pool.
Visitors can also explore the pool’s sunken city.
The “lost city” features an arcade with a Pac-Man game, foosball and a pool table, as well as a library and an apartment building.
Abdulla Alsenaani from the United Arab Emirates posted video on TikTok of his experiences in the pool.
“I enjoy pushing my body to the limit, challenging myself to get out of my comfort zone and experience new adventures filled with adrenaline as much as possible, and diving is one of my passions that enable me to do so,” he said.
“Diving at the Deep Dive Dubai pool was an incredible experience. I was thrilled to dive into this unexpected mini interactive city that no other pool in the world allowed me to.
“The deeper I dived, the more interesting and exciting it was as each room was so different. It was real fun being able to ride a bicycle and play pool underwater.”
His Tik Tok video has nearly 665,000 followers.
