VIDEO: Polar Bear Kometa Gives Birth To Cub In Russian Zoo

Caring mother cradles tiny half-kilo baby that will grow into a half-ton predator.

30 Dec 2020 — Kometa, the polar bear, gave birth to a healthy cub at the Rostov-on-Don Zoo last month.

This was the first time in 32 years that a baby bear cub was born in the Russian Zoo. The cub weighs 500 grams and is doing fine. The sex of the cub is yet to be known.

The zoo officials are giving Kometa, the baby, and the father Iona some privacy. The mother bear needs quiet time to take care of their newborn to raise it properly.

The little cub would need breastfeeding for the next two years till it starts hunting on its own. “The pregnancy of the bear lasted eight months. The female immediately showed herself as a responsible mother. For the first time in the long history of the zoo, the bear independently feeds the baby,” said a Facebook post by the Zoo.

The officials said it will be possible to see the long-awaited bear cub in the spring when Iona and Kometa go into the outdoor enclosure where the visitors can get the first-glimpse of the new-born Polar Bear cub.
