A 7-year-old has completed a full marathon to raise money in memory of his granddad.

Oliver Connon crossed the finish line on Wednesday, Jan. 31, completing his challenge to run a full 26.2-mile marathon throughout the month of January.

Aiming to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK after losing his granddad to the disease in 2020, Oliver has been running with mom Miranda nearly every day during the month after school and on weekends.

Now, the family have raised a whopping £1,828, with an additional £298 donated through GiftAid – and Oliver was thrilled with the result.

More than 30 friends and family joined Oliver at the finish line to celebrate his achievement – even getting a trophy from his mom.

“He’s just absolutely smashed it, through pure determination” said mom Miranda.

“It was very different – we usually run with just us two, and the odd friend coming with us.

“Having so many children involved added some excitement to the mix.

“Oliver had a big smile on his face – I think he really appreciated his friends showing their support for him.

“All the kids got medals and I gave Oliver a big trophy. We had some cake – and then the children ran off to play football again!”

Miranda said she was incredibly proud of Oliver’s achievement – and said he isn’t ready to slow down his fundraising just yet.

“It’s incredible – he’s raised so much money to fight this horrible disease,” Miranda said.

“I’m so proud of him, and I know my dad would be so proud of him as well.

“He’s even asked me when we’re going to do our next challenge – but I think I need a rest, even if he doesn’t.”
