A professional Russian skater was criticized for shooting a video on a frozen lake as it was used for drinking water.

Ksenia Pankratova, a former professional skater now turned coach, made a video of her skating on the Big Almaty Lake, a reservoir in Kazakhstan. The video went viral in a short time, and attracted widespread criticism because it was drinking water.

Complaints surged in after she was given permission to skate on the frozen Alpine lake, which provides water to Almaty, the largest city of Kazakhstan.

Swimming is banned in the lake because it provides drinking water, but it is unclear whether skating is not allowed. However, later Pakratova apologized in the wake of the social media storm that followed.

The video reveals that she is dancing and skating alone on the huge expanse of the icy Kapchagay Reservoir which is also in the Almaty Region in southeastern Kazakhstan.

Though a drinking water reservoir is built behind a huge dam, yet swimming is allowed and the lake is used for recreational purposes.

In one of the videos, the skater is seen traversing through the thick ice across the lake at sundown. She is wearing a red dress, and a song named “Comet”,  by a Russian musician, Polnalyubvi.

In the second video, Pakratova wears a short black dress and tights. She dances on her skates in the reservoir with Sam Smith’s background music, “Fire on Fire.”

Both the videos display contrast with her dresses to the white of the ice, where she gracefully glides across the sheet of ice and exhibits several moves for her audience while coordinating with the background music.

“We were hoping for transparent ice, but I think it turned out well even without it,” Pakratova said to RealPress about shooting the video.

She said that though it was cold, yet it was a warm thought of how the video would turn out for her fans, and also hoped for an affectionate reception from them.

People on social media, including the famous volleyball player Sabina Altynbekova, praised the new videos.

After finishing her professional career as a player, she has been working as a coach.
