Man’s best friend can also be a video star.

A California field officer/dog handler shared treats from well-wishers with his K-9 partner — and netted more than 1.5 million views and 1,200 comments from fans.

The footage shows K-9 police dog Ronin’s handler opening a special package in Auburn, California, while seated in a patrol car.

Ronin, one of six dogs in the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, is an essential part of the team. Given their keen sense of smell, K-9s can cover large areas quickly, saving the police time and ensuring their safety.

The Sheriff’s Office has eight such animals, and the unit is led by a patrol sergeant who doubles as a K-9 handler.

“K-9 Ronin got a special package in the mail. Watch the video to see what he got!” says the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

The unnamed dog handler explains they received the package in the post a couple of days earlier and shows it to Ronin.

Inside was a greeting card that read: “What better way to wash the taste of a suspect out of your mouth?”

The cop then holds up a smaller card: “K-9 Ronin, you earned it. Steak and beer!”

The officer shows Ronin the steak-shaped squeaky toy and bottles of “chicken” and “beef” ale. At the end of the clip, the officer thanks the sender for Ronin’s gift as the dog chomps on one of the new toys.

This is not the first time the department’s K-9 members have taken center stage. For Thanksgiving 2019, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office made an amusing video, “A Paw-Some Thanksgiving Sketch,” featuring their K-9s sharing a holiday meal.
